With the weather heating up (for now), so is my face, and being extremely close to perimenopause, that means the heat is heating – not that I’m complaining!
When the temperature rises or I’m away on holiday, especially poolside, I can live without a lot of makeup. But there are two non-negotiables I won’t skip from my daily summer routine, which are SPF 50 and brows on my face.
And I don’t mean just any old brows. I mean real, natural-looking, sweatproof, smudge-free brows that stay put through humidity, hot temperatures, and even a sneaky dip.
Over the years I’ve tried it all, including gels, pencils, powders, and palettes. Some flaked, some faded, and a few disappeared entirely within an hour. The ones that truly delivered had one key thing in common: a visit to a trusted brow artist beforehand and products with a natural finish, long-wearing formulas, and serious staying power in all weathers.
I’ve turned to the experts to find out how to keep brows looking their best in the heat, speaking with award-winning brow artist and Take A Brow founder Eloise Gledhill, who shared her top tips for hot-weather brow care: “When it comes to sun and brows, lamination and aftercare are key. I always recommend the Buff Browz Brow Restore Mask from the Brow Care range to all of my clients to keep their brows healthy looking post-treatment, especially when they’re going to be exposed to excess sun.

If you’ve just been waxed, keep your brows and skin out of the sun as much as possible. For any brow treatment, avoid sunbeds, direct sun exposure, and heavy workouts that cause sweating for 24 – 48 hours to reduce the risk of bacteria and breakouts.
For laminated or hybrid brows, I always say to keep them dry for the first 24 hours, then keep the area moisturised and protected with SPF 50. The more moisture you apply, the more the tint locks into the skin. If the skin stays dry, it can flake and peel.”
Whether you’re beach-bound or just sweating it out on the school run, sweatproof brows are 100% achievable with the right prep, product, and guidance.

Your checklist of what to look for in your product and application:
- Your spoolie is your best friend! Brush through brows after application to blend and soften for a more natural finish.
- Less is more: Build product gradually and set with a gel.
- Check the ingredients are waterproof/ water-resistant.
- Go one shade lighter than your natural brow to avoid harsh lines in bright sunlight.
